Yoko (Yamakita) Prine, 84, passed away unexpectedly on August 6, 2017 at Condell Medical Center with family at her side. Devoted wife of Roger Prine, they recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Yoko met Roger when he was a sailor stationed at the Sasebo Naval Base. They married in 1961 and later transferred to Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois in 1963. Yoko worked in production for Abbott Laboratories for 26 years. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Yoko is survived by her loving husband and family, Romie (Chuck) Bloom, Betty Lalond, Patty (Greg) Istvanek, Teresa (Dean) Sjong. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, Tori (Jason) Mieure, Troy Bloom, Teja Bloom (Keith Carmody), Austin Lalond, Aaron Lalond, Alyssa (Jimmy) Vinci, Joey (Evi) Istvanek, Lucas Istvanek, Meghann Krone, Dylan Sjong, Cody Sjong and her precious grandchild, Maisy Mieure. Yoko's brother, Yasuhiro (Sachiko) Yamakita, sisters Mineko (Toshitugu) Koga and Masako Matuwo of Sasebo, Japan, sister-in-law, Floy Ann (Chuck) Nikolai along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends both in the U.S. and Japan will mourn her loss. Yoko was preceded in death by her parents, Noboru and Ito (Nakano) Yamakita, her brother, Takashi Yamakita, Roger's parents, Lyle Prine and Adeline (Clarence) Prine Sharpe, and brother-in-law, Terry Prine.


Service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Marsh Funeral Home in Gurnee. Visitation is from 11a-2p with memorial service at 2p. Interment at Highland Memorial Park will be private.
